Head to Toe: Jumper, Marshall's (similar) // Sandals, Melissa // Sunnies, Izipizi // Bag, J.McLaughlin
Friends, I had a realization the other day. The consensus on Instagram was that everyone should drop what they're doing and run to the nearest Nordstrom for the anniversary sale. And I just thought, I don't give a crap about the Nordstrom sale. I've actually only purchased one thing at Nordstrom (a pair of wedges), ever. And then my next thought was, Am I really a fashion blogger?
When I started this blog seven years ago, the landscape was pretty different. Fashion blogs were just about girls taking photos of their outfits, sharing styling tips, and getting creative. But in today's Instagram world, fashion blogging seems to be more and more about selling things (looking at you Like It To Know It), and that's honestly just not something I'm interested in doing. Most of my clothes are found at Marshall's, secondhand, or vintage. Other times, it's swag I'm lucky enough to inherit as an editor. So that "where did you get that" question can be hard to answer.
Getting older has also made me more interested in spending my money on other pursuits than just my closet, like things for my apartment or a nice dinner out. I think, as a consequence of that, you've seen my blog drift more into the lifestyle realm, and that's where I think it will continue to go. This week, I'll be sharing my DIY kitchen "remodel," and I hope to write more about our new place and how it's coming together.
Overall, I think it fits. Because #LivingMyBestLife can mean a new outfit or a new kitchen or a killer chocolate chip cookie recipe. My friend Alexis of Cheese & Weim was feeling similarly as a food blogger and being limited to posting about recipes, and we both decided branching out was a good move. But for me, outfit posts will never go away entirely, which is why I had her take these photos—crowded restaurant patrons watching be damned.
THIS IS A CUTE JUMPSUIT

Haha! I've only ever made a couple purchases there myself, not even in the last 5 years, and I think most were from Nordstrom Rack. Guess I'm not cool either ;)
ReplyDeleteThat jumpsuit is so cute! Perfect for eating by the shore!

Świetny post <3 bardzo mi się podoba :* oraz super blog :) obserwuję i zostaję tu na dłużej :D zapraszam http://mysterious-natalia.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI feel ya! I don't really shop at Nordstrom often to justify talking about the sale and as a fashion blogger, I don't want to become a salesperson for brands.
ReplyDeleteI do love that jumpsuit! What a great Marshall's find!

As someone else who's been blogging since before instagram even existed, I share you feelings that the nordstrom sale is not that amazing and can't understand the amount of time and effort bloggers put into promoting it. I guess Nordstrom is pretty lucky for gobs of free press. I'm okay with living in the past, getting clothes secondhand or at TJMaxx and not worrying about only wearing something I can link.
