Spring Pink

Head to Toe: Blazer, Zara // Blouse, thrifted // Necklace, Laila Rowe // Jeans, Old Navy // Espadrilles, Joy & Mario // Bag, Zara

This weekend, the first project on my to-do list is to swap out my winter clothes for my spring ones. Not out of necessity (it's 70 today but supposed to snow Sunday, because New England), but I am just so over my collection of black and gray turtlenecks and chunky sweaters. I'm ready for spring whether Mother Nature cooperates or not. For example, I wore these espadrilles with socks yesterday--faux pas, I know, but I couldn't bring myself to put on boots. And I got a lot of compliments on the pink, most likely because I was peacocking in a sea of black (even though that's NYC any time of year), but I'll take it. Happy April, fashionistas! Don't let anyone fool you tomorrow...

Spring Favorites Under $100

As many of you know, I consider myself a true recessionista. I'm upfront about my thrifting hobby and shameless acceptance (and appreciation) of hand-me-downs. I rarely indulge in fast fashion, but there are so many good trends this spring. So I thought I'd share what's on my wish list for the season, still recessionista approved at $100 or less. And since I'm a little late with my roundup—cut me some slack, people, it's still 40 degrees in New York—some of these pieces are already on sale. Plus you can bet I'll be keeping my eyes peeled at secondhand shops, because what goes around always comes back around.
 Two-piece set // Lulu's // $72
I'll also be pulling out the crop-and-pant set my mom sewed for me last spring.
 Floral mule sandals // Zara // $90
 Off-the-shoulder top // Pixie Market // $89

 Cat-eye shades // Go Jane // $8
 Cami slip-dress // ASOS // $37
This can hardly be considered a splurge, with all of the layering capabilities.
 Denim culottes // Express // $70
Because face it: They aren't going away.
 Floral jumpsuit // Nordstrom // $76
Bucket bag // J. Crew // $98

Color Me Spring

Head to Toe: Dress, Topshop via Buffalo Exchange // Button-down, Gap // Boat shoes, Sebago

Now that March is winding down and it's officially spring, I am so done with winter clothes. I bought this spring dress on an optimistic day, but decided to pair it with tights and a denim top to make it work despite windy, chilly weather. (Full discloser: I piled on a leather jacket and chunky scarf to get to work.) Color helps, too—especially in a city where people where so much black. I got a pastel mani and brought home some yellow flowers for my windowsill. Hopefully, Mother Nature will follow suit eventually. Regardless, I'll be donning Easter colors all weekend long. Enjoy those chocolate eggs, fashionistas!

The Eyes Have It

Head to Toe: Dress, vintage LL Bean // Tights, Leggs // Sneakers, Keds // Jacket, Target

This denim dress (c. '90s) is pretty darn versital for this temperamental spring. It's heavy enough for a chilly March day over tights, but I'm excited to rock it bare-legged or open over a dress once it warms up. And can we talk about the shoes? They were a gift from a work event for Keds celebrating the brand's 100th anniversary. The hand-drawn eyes are some serious bad vibe shields, and a perfect complement to the evil eye ring I often wear. It works if you think it does, right? Happy hump day, fashionistas!

Let's talk about tiny buns...

Head to Toe: Jacket, vintage (borrowed) // Jeans, Rachel Roy via Thredup // Sneakers, Keds // Bag, Zara // Blouse, Forever 21.

I love small buns, and I cannot lie...Do you guys remember the time of the blogger bun? You know, the big donut-rolled sock bun that broke the internet? I sure do, and man do I miss those days. Do you know how long a girl could go without washing her hair while rocking that style? Guys, it was longer than I'll admit. Bud sadly, those days came to an end when I lobbed off all of my hair (which was probably a godsend, considering I would've continued sporting that bun long after it was in vogue). Now, a new trend has come around that even us short- (or in the process of growing out) haired girls can wear. Introducing, the half bun. Like the sock bun, it comes with mixed reviews. Friends and significant others have expressed their distaste for the look, but I can't give it up! It's second-day-hair approved and so easy to style on rushed mornings. If I'm really honest with myself, this is probably what's going on:

How I think I look (Instagram @chiaraferragni):
How I actually look (Instagram @christinelai604):
...But, I don't think I care. I'm already hooked. What do you think? Are half-buns wholly awesome, or just half-assed?

Showing Some Shin

Head to Toe: Dress, L Train Vintage // Booties, Victoria's Secret Catalog

This week, spring showed its face in New York City for two, beautiful days of no-jacket, bare-shin warmth. The 75-degree spurt might not be here to stay, but it definitely fostered a restored optimism, and got me creating a to-do list of all of the places I want to see, restaurants I want to eat outdoors at and rooftops I want to sun on come spring. And if this March is more lamb than lion in the meantime, I'll take it. Happy Friday, fashionistas!

The '90s called about those jeans...

Head to Toe: T-shirt, Old Navy // Jeans, Levis via L Train Vintage // Booties, Victoria's Secret catalog // Sweater, H&M via Continuation's Consignments.

First off, I want to say thank you to everyone who entered my Glamping Hub giveaway. And, congrats to Diane who won the $150 gift card! Now, about these jeans...Like any new relationship, it can take a little while to determine if the fit is quite right. If you caught my flared pants rant in the last post, you know that I'm playing the field, but I'm still not sure if these '90s mom jeans have long-term potential. I wouldn't say they're necessarily flattering, but there is an endearing quality to them, and there's the no love-handle factor. Plus Brooklyn. I mean, when in Rome, right? So what's your vote? To mom jean or not to mom jean...

Skinny is Overrated

Head to Toe: Sweater, Zara // Bag, vintage // Jeans, thrifted.

According to the fashion world, skinny jeans may finally be on their way out...Think about it: Skinnies have been the go-to style for more than ten years. And honestly, they're not all that flattering (if you aren't in fact, very skinny). As a shorty, long flares paired with heels or booties give me just a bit of extra height. What do you think? Are you into this '70s-esque trend, or sticking with your skinnies?
P.S.: There's only a few days left of my Glampinghub giveaway...Have you entered?
