Sartorial Sunday: Work-Week Wears

Hey there, fashionistas! Here we are again, another Sunday night blog. It was a whirlwind week followed by a deliciously relaxing weekend. My roomie who is a teacher went back to school this past week, and the new-year vibes were contagious. I wanted to start my busy Monday on a good foot, which for me means a good outfit. Inspired by Cupcakes & Cashmere's Weekday Wardrobe column, I carried through all the way to Friday so I could share my work-week looks with you. Dressing for work can be a challenge, especially in late summer. My outfits have to be comfy enough for walks to and from the train while being temperature-appropriate both outside and in frigid a/c. For me, this means bringing layers and varying lengths—dress + sweater, or jeans + tanks, for example. Here's my go at striking that perfect balance last week. And it starts all over again tomorrow. Happy Monday!

Sartorial Sunday: Eternal Summer

Head to Toe: Top, F21 via Continuations Consignments // Jeans, American Eagle // Wedges, Tommy Hilfiger // Shades, Guess // Bracelet, Serendipity & Grace // Geometric necklace, Happiness Boutique // Mountain necklace, street vendor

I am just-returned from a fabulous weekend getaway at the beach in Westerly, RI (check out that view, below). The weather was perfect, so we spent our days swimming and sunning. Now, August is winding down and fat fall-fashion magazines are landing on our doorsteps, but how about one more summer evening look? There are a few of them left, after all. Stone-washed with a high waist, these American Eagle jeans are straight out of Clarissa Explains it All. They beg for a crop, and this one's trendy palm pattern lends a modern update. Last, how perfectly does this Serendipity & Grace bracelet tie it all together? I was super lucky to win it off of Lydia's lovely blog, Chic on the Cheap. Thanks, girl! Have a great Monday, fashionistas...

Hump Day Favorites: Beach, Please

This weekend, I'm heading to the beach in Rhode Island for one last summer hurrah, so I cruised Pinterest for some getaway inspo. Tonight I'm packing up all of the necessities: a floppy hat, comfy beach towel and catch-all tote. I opted for high-waisted bikini bottoms (similar below) and a bandeau top for tan-line free shoulders. Old cut-offs and a crochet top provide enough coverage for post-sun lunch or shopping. The forecast is predicting some rogue thunderstorms, so do an anti-rain dance for me tonight! How are you celebrating these last weeks of summer?

Sartorial Sunday: Pink is the New Red

Head to Toe: Blazer, thrifted // Pants, Marshall's // Sandals, Burlington // Bag, Steve Madden

This has been one of my go-to workday outfits this summer. Surprisingly practical, the pants are really comfortable and the blazer adds enough polish for work (and can easily be removed for a lunchtime stroll or trip to the farmer's market). Bright lipstick balances out minimal makeup and a ponytail. And a coworker of mine reported from a vacation abroad that colorful MC Hammer pants are all the rage in Italy. Extra points: Lucky says pink is the new red so I'm right on trend (vote for my submission here). I hope your weekend was as lovely and sun-filled as mine. Happy Sunday!

TGIF #SeeSummerBetter

When the folks at Warby Parker asked me to participate in their #SeeSummerBetter campaign, I had to take some shades for a spin (you can too with home try-on). For me, summer style is all about versatility: Outfits have to easily transition from the office to meetings in the city to after-hours cocktails. I wore the ensemble below to an early-morning house tour, then to work followed by a Sister Hazel concert in Stamford. The same goes for sunglasses! The Piper in Woodland Tortoise (above middle and top right) was perfect for a day of press previews—which took me to Greenwich Village, one of my favorite NYC neighborhoods—while clear-framed Haskall glasses in Crystal (top left and bottom photos) sport a '60s vibe ideal for work and the last Alive@Five concert...Shaggy rocked it, by the way.

Although my goal is always to #SeeSummerBetter Monday through Friday, let's be real—the season hits its stride on the weekends. If you're looking for something to do in CT this weekend, the calendar is packed. On Saturday and Sunday, the SoNo arts festival is happening in Norwalk, and the Shoreline Wine Festival takes place in Guilford. Lady Antebellum and Sam Hunt are playing at the Xfinity Theatre in Hartford Saturday (lawn tickets are still up for grabs for $35). Or, just get outside—the forecast is amazing. Happy Friday, fashionistas!

Sartorial Sunday: Summer Happiness

Head to Toe: Dress, hand-me-down // Necklaces, Happiness Boutique // Heels, Target // Shades, Canvas

Hey there, fashionistas. I know it's Monday, but Blogger was a little glitchy last night so I'm sharing my Sartorial Sunday today. Summer in New England is so fleeting that if you blink, you could miss it. And as August stretches to its halfway point, I admit, I start getting a little excited for fall—changing leaves, warm days and cool nights, flavored lattes and above all, autumnal fashion (read: layers). But, I refuse to jump the gun and am going to soak up the summer of 2015 as much as possible. I just got a new American Apparel bikini (they're having a huge sale) for an upcoming beach weekend, and was happy to inherit this tribal summer dress from my bestie. So since I'm not piling on scarves and beanies just yet, I layered these Happiness Boutique necklaces instead. They have a goldmine of affordable statement necklaces plus free shipping and a customer rewards program where you can rack up points for perks. Happy accessorizing!

TGIF: Better with Wine

Head to Toe: Top, H&M // Shorts, Gap // Hat, Burlington Coat Factory // Bag, Steve Madden

It may not be Napa, but the Connecticut Wine Trail has a lot to offer when it comes to weekend fun. My bestie Liz and I had the most lovely day at White Silo Winery this past Sunday. We had a leisurely top-down drive there (hence the Jeep-hair taming floppy hat), where we were rewarded with a tasting, lunch and dessert consisting of chocolate with prosecco. And they have the best fruit wines (my particular favorite is the rhubarb). For an all-around sampling of what the state has to offer, next weekend's Shoreline Wine Festival at Bishop's Orchards will have a smorgasbord of sips. My mom and I went last year and had an absolute blast. Cheers!
