Snow-ver It

Head to Toe: Sweater, Marshall's // Leggings, Abercrombie // Boots, Sorel

Happy weekend, fashionistas! This outfit has been my uniform this past week: skinnies + sweater + snow boots. The snow and cold just keeps on coming, and today is super chilly and windy. It's the perfect Saturday for hibernation, so I leave you with the wise maxim below.

Snow Day

Though the snowpocalypse didn't turn out to be as devastating to Connecticut as originally predicted (my apologies to the rest of the Northeast), we still got a good six inches and a work-from-home day. With some extra downtime, I did a little closet organizing, and I have even been cooking (please try and sustain your shock). But for the most part, my snow day essentials include fuzzy slippers, my kindle, social media and a cozy blanket. Oh, and a cocktail. And Netflix. Okay, my snow day essentials are rather numerous. But overall, the livin's easy and the makeup's nonexistent. It would be 100-percent [easy] if I didn't have to coax a six-inch-tall shih tzu to pee in the snow. But, as they say, you can't have it all.

Chance of Flurries

Head to Toe: Blouse, Marshall's // Sweater, Continuations Consignments // Jeans, Forever 21 // Boots, Sorel

Despite the fact that there is a rumored Nor'easter coming, I thought that the "chance of flurries" predicted yesterday was good enough reason to wear my new winter boots, a birthday gift from my folks. I'm pretty much obsessed with the rubber bottoms, suede body and fur edging. They are super warm and totally comfy—plus rather stylish if you ask me—and can supposedly protect your feet at up to negative 24-degrees (though I didn't get to test this out since it ended up being a relatively nice day). Speaking of weather, I leave you with a request of Mother Nature, who finds a way to snow out my birthday plans every year: Can we have this storm thing wrapped up by Saturday night? Much appreciated. Happy Friday, fashionistas!

Birthday Fur Day

Head to Toe: Blouse, Marshall's // Skinnies, Hollister // Fur coat, thrifted // Heels, Payless // Rings, Kate Spade Saturday

Thank you Alana, for thinking up today's blog title. Yesterday was in fact my birthday—25, eek! This adulthood thing is feeling more and more official (and unavoidable), but I'm happy to report that after a day of treats, cards, texts, Facebook posts and a lunch and dinner filled with love, there's not much more I can ask for as I hit the midpoint of my twenties. Love and hugs to everyone who made it so special.

Head to Toe: Sweater and leggings, Marshall's // Boots, Steve Madden // Necklace, Francesca's Collections // Rings, Kate Spade Saturday

A comfy leggings/tunic combo was necessary for a busy Monday yesterday (confession: I repeated it from Sunday night, but who's watching?). My sweet shih tzu Monti needed eye surgery so I brought him in the morning and picked him up after work. Everything went well and he is doing fine, but he was pretty unhappy to be wearing a cone around his neck and literally did not stop whining for more than an eight minute stretch of time—all. night. long. Today I am frazzled and sleep deprived (read: word vomit), and seriously questioning how (if) I can ever have children (let alone the fact that I could barely carry Monti and my bag and my coffee mug into the house at once yesterday). I have a new appreciation for my mom and dad who lost many a night's sleep on my account—be it illness, broken bones or a broken heart. I guess the bottom line is that we care about our babies—human and otherwise—so much that we feel pained with they are suffering and just want to give them comfort and love, even if it means a night's sleep lost. And if and when I ever decided to have kids of my own I'm sure I'll figure it out, but for now my hands are plenty full with a feisty little dog named Montague, who makes my day every afternoon when I walk through the door to his wagging tail.
Mamma, take this off of me please!
PS: Isn't this rug amazing? My mom made it—check out her Etsy store.

Snowday Chic and Life Lately

Head to Toe: Blouse, Loft // Sweater, Loft (thrifted) // Jeans, Forever 21 // Boots, Frye.

I'm a little late posting this outfit from the other week during our first pseudo-snowstorm. The white stuff had me feeling sparkly so I threw on a bedazzled cardi and forwent jewelry so as not to look like a complete snow-globe. On another note, I got thinking that I haven't been sharing many details about my life these days (besides the fact that I take selfies on sub-freezing mornings to share my sartorial pursuits with you, my dear readers). So I figured I'd recap some Insta-highlights of late to let you know what I've been up to.
Fantasy days of having a "mild winter" are over. I managed to get my butt to the train amidst a fleeting snowstorm the other week. It swept in and out between 8 and 10, staying just long enough to fudge up everyone's commute. #ConnecticutProblems.
I had post-work dinner and drinks with my friend Becca last Friday to celebrate her cool new apartment (two words: exposed brick—I'm jealous). She prepped this pretty spread.
Last weekend, I went to NYC with my roomie Lei, and we visited a few speakeasy holdouts from prohibition days. (That is most certainly coffee and tea in our cups.)
This past Friday, I went to New Haven with girlfriends who also happen to be SCSU college buddies. I lived in New Haven for three years as an undergrad and never tried landmark Loui's Lunch (famous for a medium rare burger with cheese and onions on toast). My honest review? Damn good, but ketchup would've made it great—they'll kick out anyone who inquires, so I sucked it up.
That brings me to today! It's a chilly, rainy Sunday so I am cuddling inside with Monti. I ran out and grabbed a paper before making breakfast (check out those omelette skills). I'll be 25 next week, and I decided it was about time I started paying attention to what's going on in the world.

Head to Toe: Vest, Forever 21 // Skinnies, Continuations Consignments // Boots, Steve Madden.

Notice anything different with this picture? Before I traded in my long locks for a short chop, I always wore my hair down, parted in the middle, in waves (I mean check out those beachy locks, below). This was my first attempt at recreating that look with my bob. It was a nice fling with my old self but I think I better give myself a blowout and a side part tomorrow—hey, I already committed to this whole trendy/edgy thing. Boho Annie is hoping to make a return this summer, but until then I'll keep rocking the bob and wearing things like pink furry vests (one of my favorite Christmas gifts—thanks, Mom!).

Room To Grow

Globe Trotter
Being an editor at an interior design magazine, I see a ton of homes. Though at work I have to look at trends with an unbiased eye, I have developed my own sense of style over the years that I would say lands somewhere between bohemian and contemporary—kind of like my taste in clothes, no? Since I am definitely more modern than traditional (quick vocabulary lesson: modern refers to a creative movement in the mid-twentieth century; contemporary means styles that are of the moment or current), I was pretty stoked to collaborate with modern and contemporary furniture store Modani and create a room with its pieces. I think too often people associate modern and contemporary design with being stark and cold, but when layered properly, modern can be warm. I chose a white faux-leather sofa (from Modani's range of modern sofas) as my base and paired it with the zebra rug to bring in nature. The angular side table and floor lamp add structure while a graphic throw and Moroccan ottoman lend some softness. Then, most important to any room, personal touches: A fun candle (elephants are my thing) and vintage map add to the curated feel.

Weekend Ready

Head to Toe: Sweatshirt, Continuation's Consignments // Jeans, Thrifted // Beanie, American Apparel // Booties, Target // Necklace, Francesca's Collections // Bag, Michael Kors

Happy Friday fashionistas! Rarely do I post casual outfits here, and that's not because I don't wear them, but because on most Saturdays, I don't change out of my pajamas until the late afternoon and even then you're lucky if it's anything fancier than leggings and a long sweater. After a long week of vacation over the holidays (wearing mostly the legging/sweater outfit priorly mentioned), I decided to put actual clothes on my body for lunch with my bestie (who I am so proud of for making it through her first week of nursing school today. Go Liz!). These are my go-to weekend jeans and probably the best fitting/most comfortable pair I own. It's a good thing my office has a no-holes policy or I'd probably wear them every day. Enjoy your weekend everyone! New Englander's—stay safe in this snow.
